4 Reasons for Belt Conveyor Wear
The conveyor belt is both a traction member and a load-bearing member, accounting for about 30% to 50% of the entire belt conveyor cost. Once the conveyor belt becomes thinner due to wear and tear, failures such as strength reduction, life-shortening, and belt deviation will follow. The following introduces several main forms of wear, and puts forward some maintenance measures based on actual production.
1. Wear between the feed chute and the conveyor belt
The feed chute is in close contact with the conveyor belt, and its design and installation have a great influence on the wear of the conveyor belt.
Cause of formation
A. Feeding has an impact on the conveyor, especially when the angle between the material and the direction of the conveyor belt is greater than or equal to 90°.
B. The contact between the guide plate and the conveyor belt is too tight, causing the conveyor belt to wear.
C. Long hard objects in the material are stuck in the feed opening, abraded, or scratched the conveyor belt.
2. Wear between the reversing roller and the conveyor belt
The reversing roller is located at the end of the conveyor, and the conveyor belt rotates with the reversing roller, turning the lower conveyor belt into an upper conveyor belt to carry materials.
Cause of formation
The wear is mainly due to the debris entering between the redirecting roller and the conveyor belt, which is bonded to the roller, and the local radius of the redirecting roller is deformed and worn. The main reasons are:
A. Due to unclean cleaning and environmental impact, the reversing roller is easy to bond materials. When these materials reach 3cm, the local stress of the redirecting roller increases rapidly, and the wear between the two increases, which makes the rubber layer of the conveyor belt thinner or appears holes.
B. There is a long unsupported section between the reversing roller and the lower supporting roller. At this time, the shape of the conveyor belt gradually changes from trough to linear, and the materials are easy to scatter and fall on the unloaded section of the conveyor belt, enter between the conveyor belt and the roller, causing the conveyor belt to wear.
3. Local wear caused by conveyor belt deviation
Conveyor belt deviation is a common fault of conveyors, which mainly refers to the deviation of the centerline of the conveyor belt from the longitudinal centerline of the conveyor when the conveyor is running.
Cause of formation
The root cause of the deviation of the conveyor belt is the lateral force generated when the inclined rollers on both sides of the belt conveyor contact the conveyor belt. When the lateral forces on both sides are not equal, the conveyor belt will deviate. Mainly manifested as:
A. Conveyor head and tail roller center lines are not parallel, so that the tightness of both sides of the conveyor belt is inconsistent, and the conveyor belt moves to the tight side.
B. Conveyor belt quality problems or serious wear on the edges of the belt will cause inconsistent tension on both sides of the conveyor belt and cause deviation.
C. The joint of the conveyor belt is not correct.
D. The roller is not installed correctly, which exerts a biasing force on the conveyor belt.
E. Improper feeding of the conveyor belt will cause uneven force on the conveyor belt and cause deviation.
F.The roller sticks to the material, which causes a local change in the radius of the roller, which causes the conveyor belt to shift laterally.
4. Wear between the roller and the conveyor belt
The causes of wear between the roller and the conveyor belt mainly include installation errors, structural deformation of the roller frame, and roller corrosion.
Cause of formation
A. Improper installation of the roller frame
The conveyor belt generates a certain friction force under the support of the roller to ensure its normal operation. Due to incorrect installation, the axis of the idler roller is not perpendicular to the centerline of the conveyor belt, and the conveyor belt slides relative to the idler roller, which intensifies the wear of the conveyor belt.
B. The self-aligning roller is worn out due to deviation correction
The self-aligning roller produces a certain inclination angle when correcting deviation. Due to processing quality and rust, the turret is not flexible to rotate and cannot be rotated and reset in time, which will wear the conveyor belt.
C. Roller rotation lag
Due to the quality problem of the supporting roller, the rotation of the supporting roller lags behind the running speed of the conveyor belt, which causes relative sliding between the supporting roller and the conveyor belt and wears the conveyor belt.
